Politicians and governments have lied to their people, probably since the beginning of history. The current Bush administration however has taken this practice of deceit and secrecy to totalitarian extremes.

I used to think we were the good guys with liberty and justice for all. I was taught that we fought tyranny and oppression. How sad to learn, as I became a teenager and an adult that we (through our government) foster oppression at home and export it abroad. I remember the Russians (meaning back then, the Soviet Union) were the ones who spied on their own citizens, while not providing for their welfare, paraded a menacing military with nuclear ability, and had a government controlled press (Pravda) - really nothing more than a complicit, compliant propaganda organ. Wow, what have we come to? |
